WORLD READING DAY
2012

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) adopted in the year 1965 the International Literacy Day in the year with a new mission. The movement aimed to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.
And as part of this movement, Amorsolo students had their version inside the class during their English period. Each created a circle, gathered their reading materials and started sharing their thoughts and gathered pieces of information with others.
But despite varied efforts, literacy remains an elusive target. Some 793 million adults lack minimum literacy skills which mean that about one in six adults is still not literate in terms of learning. Moreover, 97.4 million children are out-of-school and many more attend irregularly. And even worse, 85 percent of the world's illiterate population dwells in these countries, and two-thirds are fairer sex. That’s why the section joined the movement to break the collective chain of illiteracy.
